How do you know if trying a new activity will be worth the time?
The cost?
The social energy?
Trying new things and exploring interests is enriching for everyone - especially our clients. It increases confidence, builds bonds, and sparks joy. It's essential for successful engagement with their community. But sometimes it's hard to take that first step towards trying something new.
Across all of our services, we continually work to identify barriers and improve access to success. For our PAC* clients, we make trying new activities in the community easier by reducing the barriers of time, cost, and social energy.
Time
Based on each client's interests and personal goals, their DSP* researches and suggests activities in the community. The client does not need to spend time planning unless that is a goal they want to work on.
Cost
We provide several group memberships to local activity hot spots at no cost to our clients and their DSP. These memberships open up access to physical activity, fine arts, nature, and educational venues in the community. By removing financial barriers, memberships provide equal social access and allow decisions to be more spontaneous. We continually work to expand our selection of memberships to suit our clients' interests. Ask about our current list of options or suggest new additions!
Social Energy
The presence of the DSP assures the client that they have someone in their corner no matter what. Through natural interactions that are both casual in appearance and backed by our client-specific training, the client's DSP can help them navigate social interactions. Our DSPs build trusting relationships by getting to know each client as a whole person. This personal rapport serves as a meaningful foundation for the encouragement and guidance they provide as our clients pursue their goals.Â
We are always excited to find ways to expand access to social activities for our PAC clients and families because we know first-hand just how important it is!
*"PAC" stands for Participant Assistance and Care. This service helps clients acquire and maintain daily life skills in both the home and in the community through the one-on-one attention of a Direct Support Professional (DSP).
