They're fun. They're popular. But beyond being a safe and convenient trick-or-treating opportunity, are trunk-or-treats really that significant?
So significant! They're a full trifecta of awesome:
Inclusive Community Building
Creative Interest Expression
Accessible, Supportive Connection
These all resonate with us at our core, and we are so excited for our third annual Partners in Autism Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 20th from 1-3PM!
Trunk-or-Treating for Inclusive Community Building
We love that trunk-or-treats are naturally "all-ages." All ages can come for treats and activities. All ages can help host trunks. All ages can absolutely wear costumes. Everyone feels like they belong...because they do!
We love that we get to interact with individuals and families we've never met and also with those we know intimately. We love that everyone from every demographic can come together for a fun time. It’s a chance for families to bond while interacting with others in a festive, low-pressure setting. It's a chance for families to experience the beauty of diversity and to be reminded that no one is alone in that diversity.
Trunk-or-Treating for Creative Interest Expression
We love that trunk decorators and trick-or-treaters both get to put their creativity and interests on display. We love seeing them engage with each other by complimenting other's attention to detail and celebrating shared interests.
Each year we've welcomed over 300 families to our trunk-or-treat. That's a lot of opportunities to connect, affirm each other, and have a ton of fun!
Adding to the creativity, we love hosting games and activities that go beyond just getting giving out treats. Our staff lead crafts that allow trick-or-treaters to explore new projects and techniques or use materials in unconventional ways.
Trunk-or-Treating for Accessible, Supportive Connection
We love that trunk-or-treats are more accessible for individuals who might find traditional trick-or-treating challenging, such as those with physical disabilities, sensory sensitivities, or social anxieties.
We designate different areas of our parking lot for a wide variety of activities. Families can visit activities in any order and engage with each activity for as long as they want. There's plenty of space for individuals and families to spread out if they need to. They can take breaks and move freely. It makes it easy for everyone to participate comfortably.
We love that this event reduces many of the logistical concerns that come with traditional trick-or-treating, such as traffic safety, keeping an eye on multiple children, or navigating through unknown neighborhoods. For parents, knowing their kids are in a contained area managed by our trained staff provides real peace of mind. With a set time, location, and event duration, families can plan their schedules more easily and enjoy a structured yet flexible experience.
One More Level of Awesome
We love that this event lets us give back to our community. We love that we get to welcome anyone who wants to participate and embrace the diversity all around us. We love that we get to host an event where everyone can feel valued and know that they belong.
Come check us out Sunday, October 20th from 1-3PM!
